Michael Jackson family denied wrongful death retrial

The family of Michael Jackson have been unsuccessful in their attempts to order a retrial over the singer's death.

Concert promoter AEG Live, who were due to stage his This Is It shows in London in 2009 and 2010 before the singer died, were cleared in October of any wrongdoing in his death.

Jackson's mother Katherine had claimed that the jury were not given 'proper instructions' but her family's wish for a retrial has been denied.

Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos said: "The court finds no jury confusion, based on the admissible evidence."

AEG Live commented: "We were confident that the court would uphold the jury's verdict. This is also fantastic news for the taxpayers of California, who won't have their hard-earned money wasted retrying plaintiffs' baseless claims. Enough is enough."

The Jackson family's lawyer Kevin Boyle, however, hinted at taking the appeal higher by saying: "We believe there are numerous ways that we can win on appeal."

The initial wrongful death trial focused on Dr. Conrad Murray, who ultimately killed Jackson by giving him an overdose of powerful anaesthetic propofol.

AEG Live had hired Murray as the singer's personal doctor. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011 and was released from prison in October after serving half of a four-year sentence.
