Beyoncé and Jay Z named music's most powerful people

Billboard have named Beyoncé and Jay Z as music's most powerful and influential people.

The husband and wife team jointly came top of the industry bible's America-themed Power 100 list, which took into account 'market share and revenue', as well as other factors.

Billboard wrote of the couple: "Leveraging their star power to release new albums in unprecedented ways - Jay Z through Samsung and Beyoncé through iTunes - they instantly changed how the industry and fans thought about interacting with music. He gave his album away; she charged a premium price for hers. But they both used the element of surprise to restore the excitement that used to accompany a new release, before that impact was dulled by the endless thunder of carefully plotted promotion.

"In short, they proved that content truly is king. Or, in this case, king and queen."

Jay Z's business interests - such as his music company Roc Nation - helped to elevate the rapper up the list.

Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge and Red Light Management founder Coran Capshaw follow on the power list.
