Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City lose plagiarism lawsuit

Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City's people have been ordered to pay over $800,000 after losing a plagiarism lawsuit.

Singer Allyson 'Ally' Burnett took out legal action against the musicians in 2012 for allegedly mining her song 2010 'Ah, It's A Love Song' for their track 'Good Time'.

TMZ have reported that BMI, who collect royalties from 'Good Time', have been ordered to cough up $804,156.

It has been ruled that "extensive access to 'Love Song' is sufficient to trigger the 'inverse ration rule'."

Burnett had argued that Jepsen and Owl City nabbed her "catchy pop vibe that both draws people in and sticks in people's heads".

She added in her legal action that she had received "emotional and psychological damage" from people questioning why she stole Jepsen and Owl City's song.

'Good Time' meanwhile was released in 2012 and it reached No.8 in the US singles chart.
