Carrie Underwood gets her hands dirty at animal shelter

Country beauty Carrie Underwood has revealed that she is a huge lover of animals and recently spent time at a shelter cleaning out some 'messy pens'.

She admitted that spending time with animals is something she loves to do and often volunteers at a shelter (pictured below) when she's home visiting her parents in Oklahoma:

"I went to my parents a few weeks ago and spent two days cleaning out some pretty messy pens at an animal shelter, Happy Paws. It was long and gruelling, but the people that run the shelter are wonderful."

Underwood added to People magazine that another one of her passions is keeping fit, so when she's home she likes to workout a lot: "I recently bought myself and all of my friends a Fitbit personal tracker. When you reach your goal, it buzzes. I set my goals pretty high, so I deserved that happy dance."

Earlier this year, Underwood was named as the new face of cosmetics brand Almayand told reporters that representing the company makes her very proud: "I believe that every woman is amazing and unique in her own way. So to me, the role of a make-up brand should be to inspire and help women enhance themselves and have fun with make-up, not transform them into something they're not."
