Lorde praises 'healthy female competition' as she wins BRIT Award

New Zealand based songstress Lorde has just won the International Female Solo Artist prize at the 2014 BRITs and admitted that she was honoured to be recognised in a category full of such great women.

She took the stage at London's O2 Arena this evening and told the audience that going up against the likes of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and P!nk was amazing:

"I’m still so new to getting awards like this my brain still feels like it’s exploding every time it happens."

"Thanks to the strong inspiring women in this category, it’s great to have competition this healthy."

David Bowie bagged the British Male Solo Artist prize, but wasn't in attendance at the ceremony so sent supermodel Kate Moss to collect his trophy, which was presented by former Oasis member Noel Gallagher.

Other winners so far at the 2014 BRITs have included Rudimental, who picked up the British Single title for 'Waiting All Night', One Direction who won the Global Success award, and Ellie Goulding who took home the British Female Solo Artist gong.
