BBC Radio 1 to go all-female to celebrate International Women's Day

BBC Radio 1 have revealed plans to host an all-female line-up for 39 hours to mark International Women's Day.

The day itself is taking place on Saturday (March 8), but the broadcaster will begin a female-only line-up at 7pm on Friday (March 7).

It will then run until 10am on Sunday (March 9), with the likes of Annie Mac and Jameela Jamil on hand to host.

BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra's Head of programmes Rhys Hughes commented: "Radio 1 is delighted to announce that we are extending our commitment to International Women's Day by adding an all-female line up to daytime on Saturday, March 8 as well. So from 7pm on Friday, March 7 until 10am on Sunday, March 9 we have a 39-hour celebration of our female presenter talent."

Jamil meanwhile said: I'm so happy to be a part of Radio 1's 39-hour-long celebration of International Women's Day. I'm REALLY looking forward to hosting alongside some of my fellow Radio 1 and 1Xtra female DJs."
