Katy Perry breaks impressive Billboard record

Pop sensation Katy Perry has broken a hard-to-beat Billboard chart record in America, overtaking Mariah Carey for the overall weeks spent at No.1.

The 'Dark Horse' beauty has now enjoyed a total of 46 weeks at the top spot on the Billboard Pop Songs radio airplay chart, passing Carey who had racked up a phenomenal total of 45 weeks at No.1. This is the most weeks spent in the coveted position in Billboard's 21-year history.

Singers P!nk and Rihanna are in joint third place with 32 weeks at the top, Ace Of Base spent 29 weeks there, Maroon 5 have 26 under their belt, Christina Aguilera has spent 25 weeks at No.1 and there are three artists who tie with 23 weeks at No.1 each, and they are Beyoncé, Boyz II Men and Nelly.

Earlier today (March 4), Perry took to her official Twitter page and told her fans that she's heading to Australia for a surprise visit to a well-loved TV show: "SURPRISE AUSTRALIA! I just decided to pop by & crash @sunriseon7 LIVE tomorrow morning @ 730am! Come hang w/me in the Plaza! BRING COFFEE."
