Pharrell Williams and The 1975 join Radio 1's Big Weekend line-up

Pharrell Williams and The 1975 are the latest additions to this year's BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend.

The massive event is taking place at the Glasgow Green on May 24 and 25.

Rita Ora and Paolo Nutini were the first acts to be announced for the event, but Pharrell Williams and The 1975 have now been added.

Williams commented: "I am so excited and honoured to be playing Radio 1's Big Weekend. Over the years I've been in awe of the amazing world class talent at the event and to know that I will be a part of it this year is so humbling. Can't wait to see you guys!"

The 1975's Matt Healy said: "It's going to be great. It's a cool thing, everyone gets really hyped up because it's like a home town thing. The thing is with us, everything happened so quickly. So we went from never playing a festival ever, and then in the first year we play every one that we wanted to and they were all amazing."

A number of DJs such as Zane Lowe and Annie Mac meanwhile will precede the event with a show at Glasgow's George Square on May 23.
