Vybz Kartel Gets Life in Prison for Murder

Vybz Kartel has been sentenced to life in prison for murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams in March. The Jamaican dance hall star was found guilty by jury on Thursday (April 3) and he won't be eligible for parole for 35 years.

Williams was killed after being asked to Kartel's home to discuss two missing hand guns that were illegal.

A pivotal piece of evidence in the trial, which started in November, was a text sent from the 38-year-old music man's phone. It said that Williams' body had been chopped up so much that it would never be found.

Kartel - real name Adidja Azim Palmer - reached No. 6 on the U.S. reggae chart in 2013 with his album The Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto - Incarcerated But Not Silenced.

The Jamaican musician's singles include "Romping Shop" (2009), "Dancehall Hero" (2010), and "Summer Time" (2011). He's collaborated with a number of hip hop and artists such as Major Lazer, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Pitbull, Busta Rhymes and Digga D, and has also been credited as an inspiration for the dancehall-infused work of a number of Western artists, including Drake, who has cited Kartel as being one of his "biggest inspirations".
