The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford says having a baby helps with depression

The Saturdays star Frankie Sandford believes having a baby has helped with her depression.

The singer last year teamed up with mental health charity Mind to encourage people suffering from depression to speak about their ailment.

Sandford attended a clinic in 2011 to counter bouts of depression and she told Fabulous magazine that the birth of her first child Parker in October has helped focus her mind.

When asked if she thought she would get post-natal depression, Sandford said:

"Yeah, I was so paranoid. I assumed that I would, but luckily I didn't. It's been a big relief. I can see how it happens - all of a sudden you realise that this little life is relying on you, and that's quite a big deal...

"I've got another purpose to life now. It's not just me. I want to be happy for Parker, I don't want to be down around him. It doesn't mean he's cured me or anything, but it gives me something else to think about."

The Saturdays meanwhile are due to embark on a greatest hits tour across the UK in September after releasing a retrospective album in August.
