One Direction accused of plagiarism over 'You & I' video

One Direction and director Ben Winston have come under scrutiny after allegedly copying an idea for the band's latest video.

The group recently unleashed the promo clip for their new single 'You & I' after filming it at Somerset's Clevedon Pier.

However, Australian production company Oh Yeah Wow have written in a blog post that they feel the video is remarkably similar to a clip they created for Clubfeet's 'Everything You Wanted', which came out last year.

Both videos sees people morphing into themselves, whilst similar objects - such as a box - are used.

Oh Yeah Wow wrote: "To be crystal clear, OYW has nothing against creative evolution. Artists constantly reinterpret other works that have inspired them and we’re fine with people taking a technique and using it to create something new…The wider problem is, that plagiarism and copycatting is becoming increasingly common and acceptable."

They added: "Considering the sleep deprivation one must endure to create an original piece with practically no budget, you can start to understand the annoyance we might feel when some affluent young bucks and a director devoid of creativity, decide to effectively steal (and subsequently dilute) our idea."

The production company also asked readers to spread the word about the alleged plagiarism.

It's not the first time One Direction have been embroiled in plagiarism discussion. Their recent single 'Midnight Memories' was likened to Def Leppard's 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' whilst some of their other tracks have faced copying claims.

'Live While We're Young' was accused of sounding too similar to The Clash and their breakthrough hit 'What Makes You Beautiful' was likened to Grease's 'Summer Nights'.

The intro to 'Best Song Ever' also attracted comparisons to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley'.
