BBC Radio 1 have announced that One Direction will play at their upcoming Big Weekend event.

The British radio station are hosting their annual live music event this year at Glasgow Green on May 23-25.

They confirmed today (April 28) that boyband superstars One Direction will perform at the massive event on May 24.

It looks set to be a busy time for the group, who are also scheduled to perform in Dublin the same day.

The 'Kiss You' lads are joined on the bill by fellow new additions The Vamps, Kings of Leon, Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Lily Allen, Bastille, John Newman and Jake Bugg.

Massive acts Katy Perry and Kasabian have also since been announced.

Previously announced acts include Coldplay, Rita Ora, Paolo Nutini and The 1975.

Tickets for the event were free, but they have already been snapped up by eager music fans.
