Katy Perry features on Mark Ryden concept album

Katy Perry is one of a number of stars who have contributed their talents to a new album curated by artist Mark Ryden.

The creative mind is releasing the $100 record 'The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell' as part of his The Gay 90s exhibition, which opened in Los Angeles on Saturday (May 3).

The album sees a number of musicians record their own take on the 1892 song 'Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)'.

Perry is joined on the album by Nick Cave, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Tyler the Creator, Weird Al Yankovic, Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, Stan Ridgeway of Wall of Voodoo and Danny Elfman.

The record is limited to 999 copies and it is printed on 180g red vinyl. Half of the copies were shifted at the exhibition, with the other half set to go on sale from Ryden's website from May 13.

Speaking about approaching Perry for the project, Ryden said: "The first time I actually heard of who she was, my 11-year-old niece said, 'There’s this girl who really likes you'. I guess she had mentioned me in some interviews. I just got to meet her, and we were admirers of each other, and I asked her, and she did it."

The artist has also drawn a picture of Perry for the project, which can be seen below.
