5 Seconds of Summer wanted 'She Looks So Perfect' to dispel "boyband" tag

5 Seconds of Summer have suggested that their breakthrough single was used in order to show the world that they aren't a "boyband".

The Australian quartet released the single 'She Looks So Perfect' earlier this year and it reached No.1 across the world.

The pop-punk group have often been labelled as a boyband - something not helped by their links with One Direction.

However, drummer Ashton Irwin told Today that they used their single to highlight that they have a 'rock' side to them.

He said: "We wanted something to really explain what the band was all about. We get the boyband thing and we just wanted to make a rocking pop song and say 'We're 5 Seconds of Summer and we're different."
