Sam Smith will make UK TV history on Friday (May 30) by performing live during an advert break.

The singer is due to play at the London Roundhouse that night and Channel 4 will cut to the gig for a live rendition of Smith's song 'Stay With Me'.

The three and half minute performance will take place during their showing of Alan Carr: Chatty Man and it is being put on in conjunction with Google Play Music.

Smith commented: "It's incredible to be part of a UK first."

Google UK's Stephen Rosenthal said: "Through Google Play Music, we're looking to shake up the way music lovers connect with the bands and tracks they love."

'Stay With Me' meanwhile is currently No.1 in the UK.
