Queen guitarist Brian May honoured with prize for campaigning to protect British wildlife

Iconic guitarist Brian May has been given a special award for leading the campaign against the badger cull, which was eventually scrapped earlier this year after it was shown to be ineffective in slowing the spread of bovine tuberculosis.

The Queen legend was given the 2014 Observer Ethical Award for Campaigner of the Year and he shared a tweet about the recognition earlier today (June 12), which read: "My thanks to all of you who voted for me @DrBrianMay wins Observer Ethical Awards 2014. Onwards! Bri."

Speaking to Britain's Guardian newspaper about being voted campaigner of the year by readers, he explained that it's a real honour to know he's so widely supported: "It's a great endorsement. I'm thrilled to know that people out there really do care about this."

May, meanwhile, is due to head out on tour with Queen and Adam Lambert for a full north American jaunt and the first date is scheduled to take place on June 19 in Chicago, Illinois.
