UK singles chart to include streaming

The Official Charts Company have confirmed that they will include streaming figures in their UK singles sales chart.

The group will add streaming to the chart from July as they count hits from services like Spotify and Deezer.

The move, which has been considered for some time, is to reflect the growing number of people who use streaming services.

Official Charts Company Chief Executive Martin Talbot told the BBC:

"So far this year we've seen nine tracks which have been streamed more than one million times in a week. Last year there were only two tracks that had reached that kind of level. So we're seeing a huge growth, up 50% in the first half of this year."

100 streams of a song will count as the equivalent to one single purchased and the first chart to feature streams will be unveiled on July 6.
