5SOS: 'People telling us we wouldn't be successful made us more determined'

'Don't Stop' hitmakers 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that while they had supportive families, they were always made aware of the fact that a career as a band was something that might not happen for them.

Speaking to the Australian Associated Press, drummer Ashton Irwin confessed that the more people told them they would never have a career in music, the more they wanted to prove everyone wrong:

"I think it was the fact that people told us we couldn't do it that made us want it a thousand times more. Pretty much everyone, our parents and friends, everyone took us as a bit of a joke so that sort of made us think `we're not and we can make this work'."

The 'She Looks So Perfect' rocker added that being able to show people they could make it isn't important to them because they don't like to gloat, but they're excited at how everything's going now: "We don't really have that attitude, we're just glad it's going well at the moment."
