Katy Perry sets incredible digital record

Pop superstar Katy Perry has broken a new record in the digital music world that sees her named the top certified digital artist around the globe.

She has had 72 million cumulative Digital Single certifications, which makes her the top certified digital artist ever by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA). Rihanna and country-pop crossover artist Taylor Swift follow closely behind her with 52 and 51 million certifications, respectively.

The 'Dark Horse' beauty, who also received an impressive plaque to mark the achievement (pictured above left), went 9 times Platinum with her hit single 'Firework', she has earned 16 Platinum Digital Single Awards, and scored 7 multi-Platinums for both 'California Gurls' and 'E.T.'

Earlier this month, Perry opened up about being a role model and confessed that as long as people admire her for her hard work and don't just envy her fame, it's really nice: "I'm aware that people look up to me, but I hope it's more an inspirational thing and not like, 'Katy Perry makes these decisions for herself, so therefore I'll make decisions based on those Katy Perry makes', because that's not how anyone should live their life. But I hope they're inspired by my hard work, my ambition, and my integrity."
