Charli XCX: 'I can write a f**king hit song and I'm going to write some for me now'

'Fancy' singer Charli XCX has revealed that she's stepping away from penning tracks for other artists and now wants to focus on creating some huge hit singles for herself because she knows she's very capable of that.

Speaking to the NME about working on her debut solo album, the songwriter explained that she now wants to be in the spotlight after writing for the likes of Icona Pop and Britney Spears:

I can write a fucking hit song. And I'm going to write some for me now. I feel like as an artist I've done so many collaborations now that I think I just want to take this record for myself."

"I'm not making a hipster record that's very cool and sounds like it was made at the beach. It's easy for me to make a record like that. I'm making a record that people might fucking hate but I don't care because I've done it the way I want to do it."

While the album is yet to be given a specific release date, she has revealed that she worked with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij on the cut: "I was making a full on punk record, every song was maximum two minutes long, and then I merged that into pop a bit more. All the songs are bubblegum punk but, like, dripping in leather."
