Sia: 'I wrote 'Chandelier' in about 15 minutes'

Singer-songwriter Sia has confessed that she penned her latest track, 'Chandelier', in a matter of minutes and it took barely any time at all to lay down vocals on it.

During an interview with NPR, the star explained that she spent around 15 minutes writing lyrics for the song and then recorded vocals in another 15-minute block so it was a really fast-moving project to work on:

"'Chandelier' took like four minutes to write the chords, then like 12-15 minutes to write the lyrics. Probably 10 or 15 minutes to cut the vocals."

She also opened up about the meaning behind the offering's lyrics, adding that it touches on alcoholism so it's almost an anti-party girl anthem and unlike anything else in the charts at the moment:

"That's why 'Chandelier' was interesting to me... I wrote the song because there's so many party-girl anthems in pop. I thought it'd be interesting to do a different take on that. For some reason, I didn't want to give it away."
