Lostprophets members hoped Ian Watkins child sex charges were a 'mistake'

The former Lostprophets members have opened up on how they dealt with singer Ian Watkins being jailed for 35 years for child sex offences.

As previously reported, the Welshman was jailed late last year after pleading guilty to a string of charges, including attempting to rape a baby.

His former bandmates quit the band before forming No Devotion and they told BBC Newsbeat that they were so shocked that they thought the charges were all a "mistake".

Bassist Stuart Richardson said: "Even though I was completely done with him, I hoped it was all a mistake, he was innocent, he had to be. The first time, we knew the band was done. You can't go back from that."

Lee Gaze added: "There was two sets of [shock] because there were the accusations - which was one thing. And then there was the actual, 'Yeah I did do it' which was a year later. He dragged that out for a year, so we got hit by it twice."
