5 Seconds of Summer were 'confused' about being asked to support One Direction

5 Seconds of Summer have spoken of their initial bemusement at being asked to warm up for One Direction.

The Australian pop-punk group supported the boyband in 2013 and they are doing it all over again this year on the Where We Are jaunt.

However, the 'Amnesia' lads told Radio Disney that they were initially unsure as to why they were asked because of their differing style.

Ashton Irwin said: "It was all very scary for us because we were a young rock band type of thing. We were very confused by why we would go on tour with One Direction in the first place because it was so different.

"It seemed like a good idea to grow our music and our live performance [skills]. It would make such a dynamic tour and really explain the difference between the two bands."

The drummer concluded: "It's cool that young kids get to go home with a bit of education on rock music."
