Mandy Jiroux on touring with Miley Cyrus, dancing, and following dreams

Singer and dancer Mandy Jiroux, who previously starred alongside Miley Cyrus in the home-video series 'The Miley and Mandy Show', recently had a chat with Pressparty about being friends with the former Disney starlet, her amazing YouTube choreography tutorials, and her future career ambitions.

Your dance tutorial videos on YouTube are incredibly popular. How do you pick the songs that you feature? Do you have a favourite track to dance to?

I first started by picking songs and choreography that I liked. Now, I actually pick whichever song my fans are asking for the most in the comments of my videos. My favourite songs to dance to would have to depend on what current mood I'm in honestly. I do enjoy doing jazz, funk or hip-hop the most out of all styles of dance though!

People might know you as being one half of ‘The Miley and Mandy Show’. Miley Cyrus has enjoyed incredible success over the years, but what do you think of her recent transformation?

I think that since Miley isn't being controlled by Disney anymore, she is just being herself and doing exactly what she wants to do.

You toured with Miley Cyrus on the Best of Both World Tours. Were there any memorable moments on that run? We heard about a trip to a tattoo parlour!

Oh man, that tour was filled with only amazing memories. From New Year in New York City, to the tattoo and piercing trip in Nashville, to the late night games on the tour bus, to the amazing tour pranks we use to pull on each other on stage! Needless to say, that tour was endless amounts fun.

Fagault & Marina's 'Tonight' features your vocals and it’s a great track. How did the collaboration come about?

The connection was made through our managers.  When I heard the track, I instantly loved it and signed on to do it! There is a music video for 'Tonight' and it actually premiered today on FHM.com.

What kind of music inspires you and what are you listening to at the moment?

All different genres of music inspire me. I am always listening to different kinds everyday. It really depends on what mood I'm in when it comes to what I want to listen to that day.

You have over 90k subscribers on your Youtube channel and over 394k followers on Twitter. How important is social media to you and to your career?

Social media is very important to me! It's how people can stay up to date with what I'm up to and how they can always stay engaged with what I'm working on. The only downside to social media is receiving negative comments. You just have to learn to ignore them and try not to take the negative comments personal.

You’re incredibly fit, what’s your favourite workout to do and are there any songs in particular that motivate you to push yourself? Do you have any top health tips?

My favourite workout is dancing of course, as well as yoga.  Any new dance track I download is always great to workout to. Drink a lot of water, don't eat super late, and take vitamins.

We heard that you’re designing eyewear and shapewear lines, can you tell us any more about those?

My eyewear line will be released anytime now and I'm still in the process of designing my shape/dance wear line. My main focus right now is creating my album.  I'm in the studio everyday working on it! I'm also going to keep creating content for my YouTube channel as well as continue to perform and DJ.

You started dancing when you were just 3-years-old, is it something you’ve always loved? Are you keen to move into different areas of entertainment, such as singing or acting, in a bigger way?

I've always loved to dance! I never stopped once I started. I am also a singer and DJ. I take everything I do seriously, not only dance. I am currently working on my own original music to release in the future as well as performing and doing DJ gigs! My next few DJ shows are going to be at NY and UK fashion week this September. I'm really excited.

What advice would you give to fans who aspire to be dancers or to pursue creative careers?

If you believe in yourself and put your heart and mind into whatever it is you want to do, you can make anything happen!  I always like to say, believe in yourself first and the rest will follow.
