Sam Smith on his own lyrics: 'Telling strangers you're lonely makes you vulnerable'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has enjoyed incredible success in the music world to date, and he has now revealed that it is hard to be so emotionally open in his songs although it's something he felt it was necessary to do.

During a recent interview with GigWise, the 'Money On My Mind' rising star admitted that admitting to being lonely is hard as it makes you seem vulnerable, but he wanted to infuse his debut album with honesty and his own reality, so put himself out there:

"With 'In The Lonely Hour', I described it so intensely because that record isn't about the other person - it was about me. I was the only person in the relationship, so I could speak candidly about it."

"And you know what, it's actually made the whole thing really tough, because you become an open wound. If you think, you're going to talk to complete strangers everyday and tell complete strangers that you're lonely and you're heartbroken, you're telling strangers that everyday and it's almost like you can't shut up."
