Cee Lo Green deletes Twitter account after rape comments

Cee Lo Green has taken down his Twitter account after posting controversial comments about rape.

The singer recently pleaded no contest to charges of secretly giving a woman ecstasy in her drink, with Green avoiding jail and as a result getting three years probation and community service.

A rape charge relating to the same incident had earlier been dropped.

The woman said she had no memory of the time between dining with Green in 2012 and later waking up naked in the singer’s bed.

It has widely been reported that Green took to Twitter on Monday (September 1) to opine about the case, saying:

"People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH Implies consent."

He later added: "Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context.

"I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."

Green has since deleted his Twitter account.
