'Strictly' presenter feels wrath of 5SOS fans after introducing them as a 'boyband sensation'

Claudia Winkleman, the presenter of 'Strictly Come Dancing', has been targeted by 5 Seconds Of Summer's online following after she introduced them on the well-loved show as a 'boyband sensation'.

The lads took the stage on 'Strictly' over the weekend to perform their latest single 'Amnesia' and Winkleman offended their fans by using the dreaded b-word to describe them. Floods of tweets were subsequently shared by fans, which expressed their disappointment and annoyance at her comments.

One fan tweeted in response to her remarks: "They called @5SOS a boyband on Strictly... Have u seen Michael's hair? They're the furthest away from a boyband." Another wrote: "Presenter of 'Strictly Come Dancing' just called 5SOS a boyband... she had one job."

Earlier this summer, drummer Ashton Irwin confessed that being labelled a boyband only pushes them to want to challenge that definition, because it doesn't fit them at all:

"Some people think, ‘Oh, they’re just another boyband. They’ll have a thing and then disappear.' But we’re challenging that thought. We’re so proud of the music we make -- we love it -- and we’re fearless. If anyone puts us down, we don’t care. Isn’t that somewhat punk -- not giving a damn what people say?”
