Britney Spears' manager reveals the strict rehearsals behind VMA Madonna kiss
The 2003 MTV Video Music Awards marked an iconic performance by Britney Spears when she opened the show alongside Christina Aguilera and Madonna, and she infamously locked lips with the 'Ray Of Light' singer.
It has now been revealed by Britney’s manager that a gruelling rehearsal schedule made sure that the performance was perfect.
Larry Rudolph spoke to Billboard about his experience of getting Britney and Madonna to work together.
Spears’ manager remembered: “Madonna had been very, very, very rigid about the rehearsals. She was telling Britney and I every day, ‘Be here tomorrow at 10 o’clock.’”
He went on: “She would never address me by name, she would just say, ‘You, make sure Britney’s here tomorrow at 10 o’clock.’ And I would say, ‘okay.’ You don’t want to upset her.”
Following the headline-stealing performance Rudolph recalled that the ‘Material Girl’ star thanked him for ensuring Britney attended the rehearsals and said: “You see, Larry? It was all worth it.”
Britney Spears continues to deliver compelling performances as it was recently revealed that her Las Vegas residency has boosted the earnings of the Planet Hollywood hotel by $20 million.
