Noel Gallagher: 'Music's great, but it's not as good as mushrooms'

Musician Noel Gallagher has revealed that the part of Manchester he spent his childhood in wasn't very supportive of bands and artists.

Referring to the suburb of Burnage in Manchester where he grew up, Gallagher explained that music wasn't really the 'in thing' and people were more interested in taking hallucinogenic drugs to pass the time:

"Where I come from, it's not musical at all, although Manchester is, obviously. I don't say it to be cool, but we were more into taking drugs and banging around in the park [than listening to music]. Music's great and all that, but it's not as good as mushrooms."

The star is set to release his second solo album, which is entitled 'Chasing Yesterday', next year on March 2, and he went onto joke that you get a lot more bang for your buck from drugs than you do with a 60-minute album: "Pop songs are three minutes long. You get a good six hours out of mushrooms."
