AC/DC drummer murder plot charge dropped

AC/DC star Phil Rudd has had a charge of attempting to arrange the murder of two people dropped.

As previously reported, 60-year-old Phil Rudd appeared in court in New Zealand on Thursday (November 6) on a charge of procuring murder.

He was also charged with threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.

However, it was confirmed today (November 7) that the procuring murder charge has been dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Rudd will continue to fight the threatening to kill charge.

The drummer's lawyer Paul Mabey QC commented:

"I was advised by the Crown Solicitor, [Greg] Hollister-Jones, that he had reviewed the police file and the available evidence to support the charge of attempting to procure murder. He had formed the view that there was insufficient evidence to justify that charge. He has now withdrawn the charge.

"Mr Rudd will defend the charge of threatening to kill. Charges relating to any personal possession of drugs are minor. The charge alleging an attempt to procure murder should never have been laid. The Crown Solicitors opinion was not sought. The charge is now withdrawn - within 24 hours of Mr Rudd's first appearance in court."

AC/DC meanwhile are due to release new album 'Rock or Bust' on December 2.
