Bob Geldof on 1D Band Aid participation: 'They have one day off and they're coming in to do this'

Bob Geldof has praised One Direction for agreeing to appear on the new Band Aid single despite their busy schedule.

The musician confirmed today (November 10) that a number of acts will record vocal lines on Saturday (November 15) for a new version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'.

The tune will raise funds for fight against the disease Ebola and Geldof said in a press conference that One Direction have given up a rare piece of spare time to record their part.

He said: "One Direction - God bless them - they have one day off, and they're coming in to do this. That's cool. It's not easy; all of us have schedules, all of us have stuff to do."

Bastille meanwhile have pulled dates in the US to head to the UK to record their section, with Geldof saying:

"To give you an idea of some of these people's commitment, Bastille - who are a great new band that are doing huge in America - they gave up two arena shows in Seattle and Vancouver to fly home to do this."

The new Band Aid single will be released on November 17 and acts such as Adele, Ed Sheeran and Olly Murs will also feature.
