Band Aid's 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' debuts at No. 1 as fastest-selling single of 2014

Band Aid 30's 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' recording has stormed straight to No. 1 after having the biggest first week single sales of the year.

With sales of 312,000 copies 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' has outsold the rest of the top five combined.

Band Aid 30 - the Bob Geldof-organised project featuring vocals from the likes of One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Rita Ora and Ellie Goulding - has managed it's impressive sales feat and raised funds to fight the spread of Ebola without streaming or physical formats.

To build the momentum already started by digital download sales, a physical release of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' will follow in December.

The rest of the top five is dominated by further new entries to the chart. Jess Glynne and Clean Bandit are new in at No. 2 with 'Real Love', Olly Murs featuring Travie McCoy debuts at No. 3 with 'Wrapped Up', Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' is down two to No. 4, and David Guetta alongside Sam Martin with 'Dangerous' is another new entry at No. 5.

Last week's No. 1, Gareth Malone's All Star Choir and their cover of 'Wake Me Up', a charity single released for Children In Need, is now down to No. 7.

New entries to the rest of the Top 40 this week come from Wretch 32 with '6 Words' at No. 8, Rixton's 'Wait On Me' at No. 12, and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds at No. 26 with 'In The Heat Of The Moment'.

There are also two boy bands with new singles breaking into the Top 40. One Direction's 'Night Changes' is up to No. 23 and 5 Seconds Of Summer and their track 'Good Girls' rises to No. 25.
