James Bay has been named the winner of the Brits Critics' Choice prize for 2015.

The singer-songwriter beat the likes of George The Poet to bag the coveted title.

The award recognises burgeoning talent and it has previously been given to Sam Smith, Jessie J and Adele.

Bay commented on the win: "I'm pretty speechless. After all the years I've spent watching the Brits and even after this year; watching my fan base grow so much, I never thought I'd actually be getting an award myself.

"I'm really chuffed, thank you to everyone who has supported me."

The musician will collect the award at the Brits on February 25.
