Sam Smith, Lorde and David Bowie nominated for BBC Music Awards

Sam Smith and Lorde are among those who have bagged nominations for this year's inaugural BBC Music Awards.

The event will be taking place for the first time at London's Earls Court on December 11.

Nominees for the British Artist of the Year prize and its accompanying International gong have been revealed.

Sam Smith will to head-to-head with Davie Bowie, Ed Sheeran, Elbow, Royal Blood and Jungle for the British award.

Lorde, Pharrell Williams, Taylor Swift, Prince, Dolly Parton and Gregory Porter are up for the International prize.

Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton will host the event, with the likes of One Direction and Coldplay scheduled to perform.
