Justin Bieber, One Direction and Ariana Grande top Twitter's most mentioned artists of 2014 list

Social media giant Twitter has unveiled its list of the most-tweeted about artists of the year and it sees Canadian sensation Justin Bieber take first place

The 'As Long As You Love Me' hitmaker has 57.6 million Twitter followers and took the No.1 position, but close behind at numbers 2, 3, and 4 are One Direction's Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Liam Payne respectively. 

'Problem' superstar Ariana Grande finished at No.5, Demi Lovato is at No.6, and One Direction heartthrob Louis Tomlinson came in at No.9. 'Blank Space' beauty Taylor Swift took the tenth position. Lady Gaga came in seventh and Beyoncé was just behind at No.8. 

In addition to this information, Twitter also shared details of the music stars who gained the most followers in the past 12 months and the list puts Katy Perry right at the top with a staggering 13 million new followers subscribing to her account in 2014. The full list is as follows:

1. @KatyPerry: gained 13 million followers
2. @JustinBieber: gained 11 million followers
3. @TaylorSwift13: gained 10 million followers
4. @ArianaGrande: gained 9.5 million followers
5. @JTimberlake: gained 9.1 million followers
6. @SelenaGomez: gained 7.9 million followers
7. @DDlovato: gained 6.2 million followers
8. @Rihanna: gained 6.2 million followers
9. @BritneySpears: gained 6.1 million followers
10. @OneDirection: gained 5.5 million followers
