Joey Bada$$ has been charged with assaulting a security guard at an Australian music festival.

The 19-year-old rapper - real name Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott - is alleged to have broken the nose of a staff member at The Falls Music and Arts Festival near Bryon Bay on January 2.

It is said that the security guard asked Bada$$ for identification before he took to the stage.

He allegedly took offence to this and reportedly struck the person.

After the set, the rapper was charged with assault causing bodily harm and he spent the night in custody.

He was released on unconditional bail after a court hearing on January 3.
