Sam Smith has lamented the personalities of some of pop's top stars.

The singer told V magazine in a new interview that he feels some of the genre's leading lights are "awful".

The Brit sat down with the iconic Chaka Khan for an interview with the publication.

He said: "Even when you meet them - I won't name names - but some of these pop stars are just awful.

"And they have not even had half the success that you've had and yet you're so humble and kind."

Khan added: "Well, its people skills. Talking to a screen all day long takes the human experience out.

"Luckily I grew up in a time when we only had a telephone at home."
