5SOS on fans: 'We always think, 'you're here to see us? We're not that special''

Australian pop-punk heroes 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that the dedication of their fans constantly surprises and overwhelms them.

Michael Clifford told Top Of The Pops magazine that he and the rest of the heartthrobs are still genuinely surprised when people make an effort to watch them live or stay behind to meet them:

"We always say it's weird that people want to meet us. Even when we're in Milan or New York, they'll be hanging around the radio stations or wherever we're doing promo. When that happens, I always think 'Those fans are here to see us? But I'm not that special.'"

Drummer Ashton Irwin confessed that initially they struggled with the idea that to be famous you had to be a character, but they all stuck to their guns and embraced success honestly as themselves, which seems to have worked:

"To be in a band that wanted to conquer the world you had to be louder than life, you had to be a character. We didn't like that. We felt a bit awkward talking to people. We sucked in interviews when people wanted to find out who we were and what we were up to."
