5SOS's Ashton on school years: 'No one cared about us and we were the outsiders'

Australian pop-punk heroes 5 Seconds Of Summer have enjoyed incredible success as a band so far, but the lads have revealed that they weren't so popular at school

Drummer Ashton Irwin told Top Of The Pops magazine that he and the other members of 5SOS were belittled, ignored and ostracised while they were students and it makes him feel really sad to think about that period in his life:

"No one cared about us. It makes me emotional just talking about it. We'd get cut down."

Irwin went onto add that he, Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood only really had each other as friends and they never felt as though they truly belonged: "People talked down to us. We didn't have any other friends, we were outsiders. It was just us four and we were stuck there."

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the 'She Looks So Perfect' superstars have been nominated in the International Group category at this year's BRIT Awards and they will go head-to-head with the likes of Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, The War On Drugs, and First Aid Kit for the coveted prize.
