Meghan Trainor has struck up a friendship with Sam Smith.

The US star told Bang Showbiz this week that she is now on 'bestie' terms with the Brit.

She revealed: "I met Sam Smith and he's a lovely, lovely person. He's my new bestie!"

Trainor is currently in the UK on promotional duties, but it seems her schedule doesn't match with Smith's.

She added: "I texted him saying 'I'm in your hometown' but he's in Montreal or somewhere doing some shows far, far away."

The singer meanwhile will release her debut album 'Title' in the UK on Monday (January 26).
