Sam Smith receives Outstanding Music Artist nomination at 2015 GLAAD Media Awards
British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has been nominated for a coveted prize at this year's GLAAD Media Awards.
The 'Stay With Me' sensation is up for the Outstanding Music Artist title and he will go head-to-head with Against Me!, Angel Haze, Mary Gauthier, and Mary Lambert for the award. The ceremony is set to take place on March 21 in Los Angeles and on May 9 in New York City.
GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis issued a statement on this year's ceremony and explained that so much progress has been made over the last 12 months, which is obvious from the shows, artists and films nominated:
"For nearly 30 years, the GLAAD Media Awards have raised the bar for inclusion in news and entertainment, transforming LGBT representation in media and moving the dial for acceptance across the globe. It's been a remarkable year for equality, and nowhere is that more evident than in the visibility LGBT people have gained across media."
Smith, meanwhile, will perform at this year's GRAMMY Awards on February 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and other artists confirmed to play live include Pharrell Williams, Miranda Lambert, and Usher. The full list of nominees for the GLAAD Media Awards can be seen here.
