The Veronicas: 'We don't equate success with popularity'

Aussie rock-pop twins The Veronicas have opened up about the resurgence of their career in a new interview with Britain's The Guardian newspaper

Sisters Lisa and Jessica explained that stars nowadays are putting their energy into the 'wrong things' such as obsessing over getting as many social media followers as possible, but their definition of success is very different from the norm:

"We’ve grown and learned so much along the way that we’re just not going to compromise or do anything we don’t want to do. Maybe that means we’re not going to be the carbon copy, huge success that everyone else might be, or we had the potential to be. We don’t equate success with how popular we are."

The beauties went onto talk about the restrictions of pop music and mainstream success, using Taylor Swift's recent transformation from country songstress to pop sensation as their example:

"Yeah, but American pop stars... Just look at the transformation Taylor Swift made from being pop country to pop pop. There are very specific things she cut out and very specific things she adopted. You can’t be too offensive, you can’t be too provocative. If you’re going to be provocative, you have to be provocative in these specific kinds of ways.”

The duo recently announced details of a short UK headlining tour and the full dates can be seen below. Tickets for the jaunt are on sale now.
