Ellie Goulding knocks 'Uptown Funk' from No. 1 with 'Love Me Like You Do'

Ellie Goulding has ended ‘Uptown Funk’’s time at the top of the UK singles chart.

Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ – taken from the soundtrack for the motion picture adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ – has become the fastest-selling single of the year so far with a sales total of 172,000 over the past seven days.

Ellie managed to disrupt Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ seven week run at No. 1 by outselling ‘Uptown Funk’ by 87,000 copies.

‘Uptown Funk’ now sits at No. 2. The No. 3 spot belongs to Hozier, down one, with ‘Take Me Church’. Rihanna’s ‘FourFiveSeconds’, featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney, is up one to No. 4. Completing the Top Five is Meghan Trainor’s ‘Lips Are Movin’’, down one to No. 5.

Other than Ellie Goulding’s No. 1 debut, there are two further new entries to this week’s Top 40. New in at No. 8 is ‘Outlines’ by Mike Mago and Dragonette, and Kodaline at No. 39 with ‘Honest’.
