'It's My Party' singer Lesley Gore dies aged 68

Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore, who topped the charts back in 1963 at 16-years-old with her iconic song "It's My Party," died earlier today (February 16) at the age of 68.

Lois Sasson, Gore's partner of 33 years, confirmed that she died at New York University's Langone Medical Center in Manhattan after battling lung cancer. Sasson, a jewelry designer, told the Associated Press: "She was a wonderful human being — caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian."

Quincy Jones discovered Gore when she was a teenager and she subsequently signed with Mercury Records, where she went onto have a successful career and released 'Judy's Turn to Cry' and 'You Don't Own Me'. Gore came out to the public when she hosted several episodes of the PBS series, 'In The Life,' which dealt with gay and lesbian issues.

Services will be held on Thursday at the Frank E. Campbell funeral home on Madison Avenue.
