Rob Da Bank on Bestival: 'Transvestitism is a great theme, but it gets turned down every year'

Bestival founder Rob Da Bank has revealed that he wanted "to do a cross-dressing theme" at this year's festival, but the rest of the team didn't agree.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the summer festival, which takes place annually on the Isle of Wight, he admitted that he always pushes for transvestitism, but it gets shut down every time so this year they're sticking with the 'Summer of Love' concept:

"There are a few that sort of crop up every year but we decide not to do them. Transvestitism is my favourite because I'd really love to do a cross-dressing theme, but everyone's too shy, too worried about that to go for it."

Rob Da Bank spoke out about 2015's Summer of Love theme recently and explained: "Our theme for 2015 is the Summer of Love... it's a simple theme and hopefully one that's easy to embrace. It's largely a positive reaction to all the bad news and downright evil going on in the world. We're not hiding our heads in the sand and pretending everything's rosy and laid-back but we can, as a big family of 50,000 people, come together, listen to music, party and spread love, even if it's just for the weekend."

Bestival, meanwhile, will be launching a North American sister event over the weekend June 12-13 on Hanlan's Point Beach, in the Toronto Islands, on the shore of Lake Ontario.
