Liam Hemsworth has been added to the cast of Independence Day 2.

Director Roland Emmerich revealed on Facebook that Jeff Goldblum will also return to the movie after featuring in the 1996 original.

Jessie Usher is also a new member of the cast.

Emmerich said overnight: "Excited to officially announce that Jessie Usher will be joining the cast for the sequel of Independence Day!

"Trivia: My producing partner Harald Kloser noticed Jessie in between sets of pushups at the gym and gave him an audition. As they say, the rest is history!"

He later said: "Excited to officially announce Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum as the next two pieces of the Independence Day sequel."

Independence Day 2 is expected to hit cinemas from June 24, 2016.
