Nile Rodgers on Pharrell Williams: 'He's a fantastic songwriter'

Nile Rodgers has lavished praise on Pharrell Williams.

The duo worked together on Daft Punk's 2013 smash hit 'Get Lucky'.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2, the Chic guitarist said that he is in awe of Williams "knack" for writing top tunes.

Rodgers said: "I love him. Pharrell and I are great friends.

"He's got the knack, he's got that thing where he can just feel songs, he can feel grooves, he's great with grooves and he's great with melodies.

"He's a fantastic songwriter and you know what? His personality is so amazing, and I think that that comes through in his productions and his writing."

Williams meanwhile was recently adjudged to have copied a Marvin Gaye song whilst co-creating Robin Thicke's 2013 song 'Blurred Lines'.

Commenting on the court ruling, Rodgers said: "[The songs] didn't really sound alike.

"Compositionally, purely compositionally, I don't think they should have lost that case. 'Got to Give it Up' is clearly a blues structure, ['Blurred Lines'] isn't at all."
