Heffron Drive's Kendall Schmidt on Zayn Malik: 'I guarantee it was a hard decision'
Schmidt knows what it's like to walk away from a successful group as he left Big Time Rush back in 2013 and he told reporters at the 2015 Kids' Choice Awards that he really feels for the 'Story Of My Life' sensation.
He explained that nothing about that decision would have been easy for Malik: "Anybody would say, 'That's crazy -- look how big the band is.' Others would say, 'He needs the space.' The only person who really knows is him. It's a decision that was not made easily, I can guarantee that. It wasn't easy, but you gotta do what you gotta do."
Schmidt also opened up about his own aspirations for his career in the music industry, adding: "My goal in life is to not just be a musician, but be in the music business. Someone who does things for other artists, and the first steps of that are just becoming a businessman."
