'This Is Us' director Morgan Spurlock on Zayn Malik's 1D exit: 'I saw him struggling'

Director Morgan Spurlock, who worked on One Direction's 'This Is Us' movie, has revealed that former member Zayn Malik seemed to struggle with being in the boyband while they were filming the project.

Spurlock told HuffPost Live that the heartthrob is really just a 'homebody' who felt uncomfortable in the spotlight and he isn't surprised that Malik eventually decided to quit 1D:

"He always struggled with being on the road. He's a homebody. He wanted nothing more than to sit in his house and spray paint and draw and do art, and I think this explosion that happened to him -- which was something none of them ever predicted -- but I think he was the one who struggled with it the most. And being away, being on the road, being away from his girlfriend I think finally just got to him, and I think he said, ‘I'm done.’"

He went onto add that Malik was his favourite member of the band and he believes the singer is incredibly talented: "I love Zayn, Zayn is probably my favourite guy in the band. I thought he was amazing. He was a huge talent, probably the best singer in the group."
