John Lennon's first wife Cynthia has died

It has been confirmed today that Cynthia Lennon, the first wife of Beatles icon John Lennon, has passed away "following a short but brave battle with cancer".

She died aged 75 at her home in Spain and a message on her son Julian's website shared the sad news: "Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers."

Cynthia and John Lennon met at art school in Liverpool back in 1957 and were married just before The Beatles reached the height of their fame.

While the band toured the world, she stayed at home raising their son, Julian, and then she and John divorced in 1968 after Cynthia discovered his affair with Japanese artist Yoko Ono. Julian, meanwhile, has now shared the below image via his website in tribute to his mother.
